OOC INFO
_NAME: NOISE
_PLURK: DatAss on Plurk
_AGE: 29 (DON’T REMIND ME)
_CURRENT/PAST CHARACTERS: N/A
IC INFO
_CHARACTER'S NAME: Laughing Beauty (no actual name is given in canon, but she also goes by Laughing Octopus, but I’m taking her from a canon point where she’s referred to as Laughing Beauty)
_CANON: Metal Gear Solid 4
_CANON POINT: Solid Sun: after her boss fight
_CHARACTER'S (ACTUAL) AGE: According to a quote from someone else in the game, they said one of her teammates was “about 20” and that all the rest in the team were around that age.
_CHARACTER'S (APPARENT) AGE: “About 20” seems about right, honestly. I’d say early 20s is good, but I’ll say 21 if you need something specific.
_CHARACTER'S HAIR COLOR: A very pale blonde.
_TANAGURA (elite) OR MIDAS (mongrel)?: Midas! Though she could use her mask to make her face (and hair color) look different, she’d empathize more with the mongrels.
_HOUSING PREFERENCE: If possible, Area 5 of Neal Darts would be awesome, but I’m really good with anything.
_HISTORY: Basically, everyone in MGS has a really fucked up backstory, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.
_ABILITIES:
NATURAL SKILLS (without need for her powered suit or nanomachines):
–Can use a gun decently
–Can perfectly mimic any voice (She not only imitated another woman’s voice, but a man’s as well). Because of this, she likely could sing very well, if she chose to.
–Speaks a few different languages. She speaks English in game, but as she grew up somewhere in Scandinavia, I’m going to say she knows Norwegian and Swedish as well. It’s also mentioned that she led a unit based in France, so at least a basic understanding of French is likely.
NANOMACHINES (I’m so sorry, this is going to be needlessly complicated because the MGS series has a boner for nanomachines):
–Can hug or straddle a person to death, slowly - I don’t know either. But for whatever reason, without her suit on, she can slowly drain the life of anyone she hugs or touches. And yes, that includes straddling in game; she very likely could actually fuck a person to death if she wanted to (note that someone would really have to piss her off before she’d do something like that AND I’d clear it with the person OOCly first). They don’t talk about this power at all, in game, so I’m just going to assume it’s a power made possible through nanomachines (since pretty much any superpower is courtesy of nanomachines, in the MGS series). In all likelihood, she probably won’t actually use this power unless she was threatened or ordered to use it.
–She’s shown to be able to perfectly coordinate attack formations with her unit without even talking. Basically, people with nanomachines are programmed to share each other’s senses and work more efficiently as a team by then coordinating battle tactics with each other. This also likely wouldn’t come into play in the game, unless someone else maybe apps someone with nanomachines that would have this same (or a similar) function.
-Has healing abilities. While it wouldn’t be able to instantly heal her, it’s said in canon that soldiers are unable to get drunk, as the nanomachines break down alcohol and can purify unclean water. In addition to that, nanomachines in her universe are even used to slow (but not cure) cancer. So basically, she’d still need medical attention for any serious injury she received, but it’d be impossible to poison her unless someone deactivated her nanomachines.
–Her nanomachines monitor her body’s functions and basically makes it so that she’s at her best possible shape during combat. By controlling adrenaline and endorphins that flow through her body, it elevates her senses and accuracy whenever she encounters a combative situation. It also suppresses and heightens certain emotions during these times, to make her all the more effective (for LB, it’s said that she laughs the hardest during times of combat, this is likely due to nanomachines).
OCTOPUS SUIT:
While I’ll be bringing her Octopus suit in damaged, this is what it’s shown to be capable of, in canon, once it gets fixed. Note that she must be wearing her suit to be able to do almost any of this.
–CAMOUFLAGE. Her Octopus suit can take on any pattern and seemingly shape shift to a degree to perfectly blend in with her surroundings. The mask of her suit is shown to be able to make the wearer take on anyone’s appearance perfectly (and she can somehow still move her mouth in spite of it being a mask), and can be used entirely independent of her suit. Thus, she would still be able to use that to change her facial features if she wanted to, even without getting the rest of her suit fixed.
However, the entirety of her suit allows her much more variety in camouflaging herself, some examples being an anatomy model, blending in with a painted picture, disguising a tentacle as a wire to a big machine, making herself appear as a robot, somehow fitting herself into a tiny ass box, and she also can just stand around and blend in with any background. Note that if a person has some kind of thermal vision or goggles, her disguise really wouldn’t be effective at all.
–TENTACLES. The tentacles on her suit have been showed to whack people, climb up walls (and hold her position in higher areas), restrain (and crush an unfortunate person to death), and pierce through stomachs. There also seems to be tinier appendages at the end of each tentacle, so I could get creative with this ifyouknowwhatimean.
–INK SMOKE… THING? Her suit has the ability to emit some kind of ink smog that provides cover for her to escape from situations that she deems too up close and personal to deal with. The downside is that she apparently has to vomit all of the black ink out when she’s out of the suit (I really don’t know about this canon either).
–ROLLING INTO A BALL. She can also roll her tentacles up to become some sort of ball, rev herself up (think Sonic the Hedgehog), and plow into a person.
–ELECTRICITY. While it’s not a really strong power, she has some sort of power to emit a sort of shock to a person. While it wouldn’t kill a person from a brief touch, a longer duration would definitely kill a person.
WEAKNESSES:
–Outside of her suit, she’s far more fragile. She knows how to shoot, sure, but other than that, she doesn’t seem to have much knowledge of how to defend herself.
–Apparently, she has some strange weakness to cameras if she’s outside of her suit. For whatever reason, if a camera is pointed at her, she’ll stop what she’s doing and pose for it. It will not work if she’s in her tentacle suit.
–She’s also weak to this very specific song. Basically, she has to stop whatever she’s doing and do a lip sync performance to it.
–Mental instability, but that will be covered shortly.
–Because of her PTSD, she’s been unable to keep her laughing under control. She will literally laugh all the time, maybe during the middle of a sentence, but likely during really inappropriate times (when she might be nervous or experience a more negative emotion). Basically, this puts a bit of a hamper on her so-called title of being a master of stealth.
_PERSONALITY:
The most important thing to remember about Laughing Beauty is that she more or less had two different personalities she created herself, in order to help her cope with the events that led to her becoming traumatized: the Beauty (her normal personality) and the Octopus (her "Beast" side). Both personalities are most definitely her, but she finds it easier to associate all of the bad things -- and all of her most destructive traits -- with something else that isn't her. Before Snake faces her in battle against her Beauty form -- which is the canon point I'm taking her from -- she seems to start to come to terms with the fact that it was her who did all of the terrible things, but the process of figuring out who she really is, with two contrasting sides of herself will be a long and arduous one.
Her Beast persona -- or rather the Octopus -- was something she created in her mind, shortly after killing her family in an attempt to try to cope with what she was forced to do (not that it helped any). The most prominent trait, in this state of mind, is that she is very sadistic in battle; it's said that she laughs the hardest when she's in the middle of one. As she was forced to laugh -- to act like she enjoyed killing and torturing her family and friends -- it really fucked her up for life. Though her mind has begun to sober from this more violent side of herself, it'll still be something repressed, deep within her. In fact, if she gets in a battle, there's a possibility she'd get so wrapped up in it that someone else would probably have to drag her away from it (or in canon, someone had to throw a knife at her to force her to leave one person alive). I believe this stems from her history of being overpowered by the cult from her past and being terrified of ever being put in that position again -- if she's stronger than her enemy, then they can't force her to do something terrible again.
She also becomes more playful in her Beast suit, to the point where a lot of her actions could probably be read as condescending. As the one out of the B&Bs that seemingly talks the most, when she's engaged in battle, she constantly challenges people to find where she's hiding, taunts the player if she manages to deflect their gunfire, and will laugh even harder if one should fall into one of her traps she sets up in her boss fight (and even taunts you for not being very smart... in another person's voice). Perhaps the reason for this behavior is the result of her own ego, considering the power she has within the suit, but I also believe part of it is sort of a defensive mechanism; she wants her opponent to be as scared of her as she's probably scared of them. Part of this is probably also because the incident, that changed her life, happened when she was a teenager -- by trying to convince herself that she was another being (that wasn't herself), her emotional state likely hasn't matured as much since then.
As the above quote mentions, beneath that scary Beast armor and bloodthirsty personality, there is a scared and very, very unstable individual -- with her canon point in mind, this will be the facet of the personality seen the most from her (particularly when she's outside of her Octopus suit). When her Beast armor first comes off, she still tries to continue her Octopus persona, but in just mere seconds she has a breakdown of sorts as she clenches the sides of her head saying that nothing was funny, starts desperately apologizing to a very confused Snake for laughing, told him that she was scared, and then swore that she'd never laugh again. Then a few seconds later, she starts hysterically laughing again and tries to kill him. However, I do not believe she would be the type to try to kill everyone, as it was a specific mission of hers to kill Solid Snake (and everyone else she was shown killing in canon, she was ordered to do so first). To me, I see that scene as a good example of her trying to comprehend all of the facets of her personality, becoming overwhelmed and incredibly confused by it, and then attempting to go back to her more violent persona to try to finish her mission.
As she slowly recovers, though, there's still going to be a few different things that are sure to trigger feelings of anxiety within her, particularly if she feels defenseless. Though there's still the possibility that she might get too obsessed with the idea of protecting herself (or rather killing everything she sees as a threat, if she gets too out of hand), within her Octopus suit, it will also act as a sort of security blanket if she feels threatened. It should be noted that most people likely wouldn't intimidate her enough in most conversations (and therefore shouldn't have to worry about her running off in the middle of a conversation to put on some freaky armor) unless they're directly antagonizing her.
Laughing Beauty is also extremely impressionable. Since her psyche was shattered to pieces, during the events of her youth, she hasn't quite learned to live outside of her suit, and it made her quite susceptible to suggestion. Even in canon, she was entirely convinced that the pain, sorrow, and guilt she constantly felt could be alleviated just by simply killing Solid Snake, even if he had absolutely nothing to do with her traumatic experience. While she probably wouldn't believe every single thing anyone would tell her ever, if one were particularly persuasive, it wouldn't be too hard to sway her.
Being more used to living as a Beast -- a tool of war -- for at least the last few years of her life, she is going to be very skittish and confused by trying to live as a normal person, as she comes to terms with the fact that she can indeed live outside of her suit (as they had her convinced, in canon, that her life functions depended on her being inside of it). However, as a proclaimed master of stealth and mimicry, it's possible that her talents will prove to be useful, even outside of combat, in the form of adapting and blending into her surroundings. Even though she would be scared and confused upon arriving in a new world (as she certainly would not be used to living as an actual person, instead of a war machine), she'd ask a lot of questions to better understand the environment and attempt to appear as normal as possible. There's also a good possibility that if she bonds with a person enough, that she'll start to try to copy traits of theirs that she admires. Even the dimmest of people will probably be able to tell that there's something off about her, most likely because of how often she laughs -- even at things that aren't supposed to be funny -- though some might not be able to realize that her constant laughter is a result of the PTSD she's suffering from.
She also seems pretty uninhibited and probably isn't very modest, when it comes to her body. It's not to say that she would sleep with everyone, but during the Beauty portion of the fight, she doesn't seem to have any qualms against pressing herself against Snake and even straddling him. Granted, she was trying to kill him, using her incredibly absurd powers, but I can't imagine that she'd really shy away from that kind of contact in a non-combative way if she really wanted to go that way either. There's also the fact that she herself was actually supposed to be naked in her Beauty fight, though it had to be changed to her wandering around in a skintight suit to avoid the dreaded Adults Only ESRB rating. Basically, even though she’ll be coming in as a virgin, I really don’t think it’d take much for her to get into the sex-related culture at all.
Lastly, in spite of having high confidence in her looks, as well as her battle prowess, Laughing Beauty generally has a very low opinion of herself. The overwhelming guilt she feels over her past weighs the heaviest on her mind, which really clouds any other confidence she might have in herself. Being used as a human weapon, for the last few years, she has it hard-wired into her brain that it's the only thing she's good at, even if she really does have a lot of other skillsets and the intelligence to learn many more. The confidence in her beauty stems from the fact that one of her given names is Laughing Beauty -- it's not hard to pick up that she's attractive to others. However, it's something she really tries to be humble on and certainly not something she would brag about. She would be highly appreciative of any compliments that didn't have to do with attractiveness or her destructiveness, even if she wouldn't quite believe it -- she'd be the type to smile and feel a little flustered about it, rather than the kind of person who would straight up deny it, though.
_ITEMS: Pretty much everything in this picture. The catsuit looking thing she’s wearing is a plug suit which attaches to that freaky looking tentacle suit. The Octopus suit will be non-functional when she arrives, but I plan to see if she can find someone to fix it. She’ll also come with a FN P90 (think machine gun) in one of the pockets of her Octopus suit.
